[Not only has Armin had literally 100% of his skin melted off by steam, but he's also let off a fair amount himself at similarly lethal levels. A little smoke in his face certainly doesn't bother him, though he does note the lack of heat, and puzzles endlessly over just what exactly Kate is. He's really found himself in a strange situation...
[Once again, he doesn't trust the pocket watch, but he can't just go around trusting nothing. If there's something inside, he'll take care of it.
[However, when they reach the house, it does indeed appear to be empty. It's not terribly put together, with dusty, overturned furniture, crooked pictures on the wall, but it does appear to be safe.
