A whole bucket of blood... it's raining blood, shun'ya, please,
The demons outside start to settle down come dawn, so that seems the safest time to go out and see what's happening. Without directly following the actual person in question, there aren't actual footprints available that hasn't already been washed away by the rain, but there's little to the east of the church other than the frayed edges of the world, so they probably have a good guess as to what happens when you continue walking east like a spellbound zombie.
From the locations page: "Whether it is from the top of the wall or at the eastern edge of town, approaching the darkness will cause an increasing sense of dread, culminating in the urge to throw oneself into the void, to one's death. Malice can be felt from the void, and occasionally characters may hear whispers of garbled speech, or notice movement within the darkness despite the pitch black."
Day 1 morning, they find that this malice is tempered somewhat, although the urge to fling oneself into the darkness is as strong as ever. (do it) (come on) (let's go)
