[DAY 1-]
The night drags on.
The moon, full and bright, illuminates the world below as demons rise in indulgence of the hunt. All those who are not securely tucked away become prey, whose blood runs freely down the streets, whose screams fill the air in symphony, whose lives are snuffed out one by one as the night grows darker- but not quieter, no. Towards the far west, wind picks up in a deafening howl that tears through the forest violently enough to uproot trees, followed by a thunderous explosion atop the wall that sends large chunks of rock crashing down on parts of the immobile train, creating shockwaves felt all the way into town. Dark clouds gather overhead, smothering the moon and unleashing a downpour that continues unrelentingly until dawn, when the paltry sunlight behind the clouds is only enough to see that the rain that falls is in fact blood, thick and warm, coating the rooftops and the streets. Rivulets trickle towards the east, where they spill over the edges of the world and into the cavernous abyss of a mouth below.
Those who sleep will dream. They dream of being flat on their back, lying on hard metal, a warm breeze caressing their cheek, the faint scent of cherry blossom in the air. They dream of their bodies feeling like lead, heavy and unable to move, hardly able to breathe— and all the while in complete darkness. Whether they give in to exhaustion or struggle valiantly against it, they will eventually open their eyes to a different scene: of somebody's home before here, you and that person reliving the very last memory they had before waking up in the train just yesterday. It's a memory that culminates in darkness. Give in. Struggle. Open your eyes again and again and again, and eventually you will wake up to what you wish were just another bad dream: the unfortunate plane of existence we call reality.
It may not be a good morning, but it's morning. If characters glance at their COMP, they will see a bright number 7 on the screen that disappears as their chosen AI chimes in with a good morning greeting ("Whoa! Congrats on surviving the night, boss!" or "Yikes, you look like shit. Did you get any rest at all?"). Pulling up the map function shows fewer blue ally dots as expected, but perhaps unexpectedly, much fewer red enemy dots as well: there are very few demons to be seen, and those that are, show little interest in hunting unless they are attacked first. The forest is still and quiet, red Mandrake leaves littering the floor in abundance but the demons remain rooted underground, the Hares of Inaba huddled snug within their dens, bird demons taken roost underneath the canopy to keep out of the blood rain. The concert hall is silent today, guards at the door watchful and ready to snipe intruders. Inside the powerplant, the giant Ooze spreads lazily across the first floor, filling the space wall to wall, acid seeping underneath the front doors and burning its way outside. Indoors, outdoors, demons keep to themselves, seemingly sated.
It's almost peaceful. If you didn't know better.
The drizzle of blood tapers off over the course of Day 1, replaced by normal rain once night hits. The water that falls is clear, though bitter and metallic tasting, and the stormy weather continues for several days more. The temperature outside dips, even during the daytime, and the hunger that continues to persist (unless you're BB, who ate a Pixie, maybe) is made worse by the appearance of a hot dog stand that has been set up in front of the school building. Its existence in this place is wholly suspicious, entirely nonsensical, manifested as if out of a yandere devil summoner fever dream— and yet the mystery meat smells divine, and you are so so hungry.
"Hee-ho! Get your hot dogs here-ho! What? What kind of mee-hee-t is in it, ho? Don't worry about it, ho!"
Can anybody resist that cute face? never mind the sales pitch. Jack Frost will operate on a barter system, though it really only seems interested in people's gemstones, or if they're willing to slaughter and bring it a Katakirauwa in exchange for a cold but still delicious hotdog dressed up in any variety of condiment. For those who muster the courage to go demon hunting to earn their meal, they will find that a single hotdog will stave off hunger for up to three days. For those who gave up their gemstone instead, K5 will be screaming at them not to do that, but also, please tell me. Maybe they'll rethink the offer, noticing that the gemstones they'd found on their person now feel slightly warm to the touch- growing warmer when in proximity to another person's gemstones, their colors more vibrant, stones faintly glowing as if with internal light.
Generous as Jack Frost is with providing dubious sustenance, it's a different story when it comes to the vending machine beside its stall. Inside are various drinks guaranteed to be cold, and include bottled water, coffee, teas, juices, blood and tears and many other questionable unlabeled liquids among its touted 100!!! varieties of beverage ("""beverage"""). Two problems: 1) there is no selection button, so you do not get to choose your drink; and 2) the machine will only take macca. Where to get macca? Figure that out yourself and earn your drink gacha.

Since I know a handful of you are still working on apps, this event log in general will be open to all players, but Investigations will be closed to current players only. See below for more information.
»
On Day 1 only, wild demon encounters will be scarce and it will rain blood all day, after which the weather will transition into normal rain and demon encounters will also return to normal rates, less during the day and more frequent after dark.
»
When characters fall asleep any time in the next several days (including victims of the concert hall lullaby that will begin again starting Day 2, as well as inadvertent naps for those of you who are like lmao yeah whatever, i don't need sleep, i'm fine), they will be able to see the circumstances around other characters' canonpoints. This dream may take the form of being a bystander, or from the point of view of the character, whichever would be more fun/interesting to play.
»
Players can advance time by posting new logs set on the current or next IC date— don't be afraid to advance time as needed! Plot beats will be adjusted accordingly, and there'll be ample warning if plot necessitates a deadline or specific event date for any reason. If you have any trigger warnings, please let me know here! Comments are screened, and warnings will be listed in the log format post for player awareness.

As characters investigate different locations in the setting, more aspects of the game will be unlocked and will be updated in the post above. In summary, from the previous TDM event, characters have found doors sealed by barriers in the school, greenhouse, and hospital. The concert hall and powerplant are still both heavily guarded by demons that prevent thorough investigation until dealt with.

Armin Arlert | Attack on Titan | ota
[There's not much to the memory. There's not much of anything. Just blood - viscous, dark, stretching out in every direction, as endless as an ocean. Thick steam rises from the crimson sea in awful pillars. The stench is overwhelming.
[It must be awfully odd to dream of this, then wake up to the same sort of rain.]
((ooc: this is not necessarily an interactive prompt, and there is not necessarily anything involved that would reveal it is armin's memory, assuming your character experiences it from a firsthand POV (I'd prefer this), but if you want to go ahead and say this was implanted in one of your characters' brains just for juice :3c please go for it))
searching (various locations - you pick!);
[Armin is searching for someone. It isn't necessarily obvious; despite the bloody rain, he walks rather calmly through the town, dark hood pulled up over his head. It will be soaked through with blood soon, though the downpour has become more of a drizzle. The stench is so very, very familiar.
[He may encounter you at any one of the locations in town, though he gives no indication as to what his goal is - merely inclines his head, pulling his hood back enough to reveal blue eyes and a smile.
[Regardless of whether or not he recognizes you, he'll deliver the same sentiment:]
I'm glad to see you made it. It seems we have another day to weather. [No pun intended.] What's your goal now?

Hello again. As I said earlier, my name is Armin Arlert. I'm working, now, on compiling what information I can as a resource for everyone to utilize.
Here are what main points of interest I've managed to learn so far:
1. Demons can, indeed, be recruited based on contracts with clear and concise terms, though you must be extremely careful with what you offer, and how you word your offers/commands.
2. The information we've been given on the demons' abilities and weaknesses is not necessarily correct, and conflicts with information given by others who have experience with these creatures in their own worlds/realities.
3. It appears that individuals from our homes can appear here despite having died, or can appear here from different points in time (the latter, naturally, lending to the former).
This is the information that I've gained/confirmed personally and have not yet seen shared through our devices.
Please lend any pertinent information that you can, and I will add it to a report I am compiling for later use.
Note: There is no need to repeat information which has already been shared publicly. I have already added it to my notes.
Thank you.

a demon compendium
4 everybody to use
yknow so they can proceed more carfully and maybe not get eaten (◕ ꒳ ◕✿)

I hope you won't mind if we speak this way. I'm not a huge fan of the text feature, to be quite honest with you - though, it is the most reliable way to provide information that can easily be used later.
I think that a demon compendium based on our personal experiences is a wonderful idea, yes. I'd be quite interested.
a smart man
That's promising! [
I was hoping you'd say that. Seems like everybody's so thirsty for answers they'll charge into and at anything without much thought. [ Read: Planning. ]
Text would be the best way to disseminate the information. As for getting it, I'd like to avoid tempting diehard members of the group I mentioned to seek it recklessly. Most of the people here seem to lack prior E-X-P with demons of any kind.

I have a matter I would like to discuss with you. I have a theory as to where we may be, but it is only that: a theory. I would not risk spreading potential misinformation to everyone so I would discuss it in person.
It also involves the sensitive matter of the ritual behind summoning a demon. I am currently taking refuge in the church.

Hi there, Kaito. It's good to hear from you again.
While I wish I could give you a simpler answer, that will change depending on which individual demon you're talking to. Even those of the same variety may want different things. For example, one of the ones I managed to recruit asked to be made beautiful.
Ah. As ridiculous as that sounds.

I am aware of demons at the hospital taking on the forms of those familiar to us, but I'm speaking about another phenomenon. Of course, it's possible that demon interference is still involved, but [There was really no way of sharing this information without revealing his own experiences, was there?] I personally encountered individuals from my world that I confirmed were their genuine selves. Two of them were from different points in our timeline, and one had already died.

Me and the princess dug up the plot with my old name on it to see what was buried there, because it sure as whatever Hell we've ended up in isn't my corpse, and made the absolutely delightful discovery that most of the graveyard has been overtaken by a mass grave.
I did some more metaphorical digging after that. First of all, jumbled, maggot-ridden corpse piles aren't the norm for this culture[1]—they seem to prefer cremation, judging by all the funeral urns in the houses, but according to religious doctrine, they sometimes bury their dead in a proper coffin. Or at least they're supposed to.
Then I hit up the hospital to access their medical records and see if I could find a trend within relatively recent causes of death, i.e. in the months leading up to the last day of recorded hospital operation. Once I cracked the awful security on their computers*, I found that the town had an unusually high number of deaths due to SADS[2], which is not depression but rather "Sudden Adult Death Syndrome" or "Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome," which is a medicalized term for "died in their sleep with no known cause." The nurses report that the victims appeared to be in fear and pain in their sleep before dying, which reminds me of that nightmare that I had last night of not being able to move or breathe while in complete darkness before seeing other peoples' dreams, so there could be some connection there. Cases of SADS accelerate in frequency up until the last date on hospital records, where twelve or potentially more happened at once.
Finally, I went back to double-check my work by digging up more graves because apparently I hate myself that much. What sticks out to me is that none of the people who died of SADS have gravestones[2], but there are still a few proper coffins here and there if you look hard enough[3].
So things are finally starting to make a little bit of sense. Putting aside the "how" and "why" some of our names are on those headstones, it looks like the church graveyard used to be an official graveyard but got converted into a mass grave for those who died of SADS as the deaths kept accelerating. A mass grave existing at all in a dinky town like this is bizarre, too—they're usually for war dead, plague victims, or people who don't like. My read is that the mass grave was created because of those latter two items. The townsfolk were fearful they'd catch whatever it was that was making all these people drop dead in the middle of the night, and probably wanted to keep it a dirty little secret instead of making a big deal out of it, since "hi, if you live in our town you stand a substantial chance of dying randomly, oops" is a great way to incite fear and panic.
I have two questions for Rosie specifically, one related to the data I've collected here, and one that's only tangentially connected.
1. Is the existence of SADS and its uptick in Beelzeburg something you can tie back to demons? Ugh, I feel like some medieval crank even writing that, but it's a question that bears asking in this situation.
2. The skeletons in the church have been bugging me in general. Total skeletonization doesn't line up with how long ago most of the people littering the streets and buildings died (around 8 months by my guess, I took a close look at one of the corpses), and I'm pretty sure the townsfolk would've objected to a bunch of decaying corpses stuck in a praying position in their place of worship. If anything, "all the flesh seared from their bones" seems almost like something from the Bible to me. So, if we have ghosties and ghoulies and goblins from folkloric tradition all over the world... are there "heavenly" demons too? Angels and the like? Would they be able to do something like that?
And an open question for the room:
3. Does anyone have a working shower? I've covered in grave dirt, corpse bits, and bone fragments, and I'd like to clean the scuzz off before I fall asleep and catch all kinds of disease, thanks.
You all better appreciate this.
*I can show you how to rig up a bullshit lightning magic to direct current converter using your demons if any of you are interested, which is a ridiculous sentence I thought I'd never have to say until I woke up in this literal hellhole, gosh golly gee I love Beelzeburg, that was sarcasm for you dorks that can't pick it up over text.
Sources (Pay attention, BB, THIS is how you properly cite sources)
[1]Evidence of funerary traditions (A folder containing several images of funeral urns in homes and some translated pages of religious texts talking about proper burial of the dead)
[2]Data showing upward trend of SADS deaths before the apocalypse (A graph plotting out the generally accelerating trend of SADS occurrence in the hospital records until the hospital shuts down, along with the medical records it cites. Each medical file with SADS listed as a cause of death also has a small note made by Alice that just reads, "gravestone?" followed by an "X" for no)

1. short answer: yes. there are various demons that cause nightmares in humans to feed off of their negative energy until they're drained completely dry. it's a relatively common boogeyman across human culture because of how many mundane diseases can cause sudden death in sleep while causing unsettled dreams, etc, so you get a varied spread of demons that can do that.
as i didn't sleep last night i can't tell you if your dream was due to demonic forces or just mundane supernatural causes. i'll try to catch a short nap sometime today to experience it for myself and see what i can glean from it.
2. lol lmao
yes. angels are real because they are also demons. same shit, just dressed up nice and pretty. surprised i haven't seen an angel roaming around here, actually, because they tend to be drawn to concentrated demonic activity - nothing more susceptible to holy doctine than humans being tormented by demons, since "no atheists in foxholes" and all that.
but yeah, an angel can do that shit in the church. as to why though... not sure. angels prefer humans to be alive to harvest the energy generated from their faith. they only kill humans if they deem them to be "filthy" (i.e sinners), but even then, they tend not to because it's a lot more efficient to mindbreak them into loyal believers than wasting the potential energy their souls can generate.
Hope that helps ο(=•ω<=)ρ⌒☆

Thank you for the information, Alice. You really put your time to good use. I'll add it to the report I'm planning on compiling. [Though, again, where's the time?]
I'm interested in Rosie's answers to your questions, too, so I'll follow that as well.
