[DAY 1-]
The night drags on.
The moon, full and bright, illuminates the world below as demons rise in indulgence of the hunt. All those who are not securely tucked away become prey, whose blood runs freely down the streets, whose screams fill the air in symphony, whose lives are snuffed out one by one as the night grows darker- but not quieter, no. Towards the far west, wind picks up in a deafening howl that tears through the forest violently enough to uproot trees, followed by a thunderous explosion atop the wall that sends large chunks of rock crashing down on parts of the immobile train, creating shockwaves felt all the way into town. Dark clouds gather overhead, smothering the moon and unleashing a downpour that continues unrelentingly until dawn, when the paltry sunlight behind the clouds is only enough to see that the rain that falls is in fact blood, thick and warm, coating the rooftops and the streets. Rivulets trickle towards the east, where they spill over the edges of the world and into the cavernous abyss of a mouth below.
Those who sleep will dream. They dream of being flat on their back, lying on hard metal, a warm breeze caressing their cheek, the faint scent of cherry blossom in the air. They dream of their bodies feeling like lead, heavy and unable to move, hardly able to breathe— and all the while in complete darkness. Whether they give in to exhaustion or struggle valiantly against it, they will eventually open their eyes to a different scene: of somebody's home before here, you and that person reliving the very last memory they had before waking up in the train just yesterday. It's a memory that culminates in darkness. Give in. Struggle. Open your eyes again and again and again, and eventually you will wake up to what you wish were just another bad dream: the unfortunate plane of existence we call reality.
It may not be a good morning, but it's morning. If characters glance at their COMP, they will see a bright number 7 on the screen that disappears as their chosen AI chimes in with a good morning greeting ("Whoa! Congrats on surviving the night, boss!" or "Yikes, you look like shit. Did you get any rest at all?"). Pulling up the map function shows fewer blue ally dots as expected, but perhaps unexpectedly, much fewer red enemy dots as well: there are very few demons to be seen, and those that are, show little interest in hunting unless they are attacked first. The forest is still and quiet, red Mandrake leaves littering the floor in abundance but the demons remain rooted underground, the Hares of Inaba huddled snug within their dens, bird demons taken roost underneath the canopy to keep out of the blood rain. The concert hall is silent today, guards at the door watchful and ready to snipe intruders. Inside the powerplant, the giant Ooze spreads lazily across the first floor, filling the space wall to wall, acid seeping underneath the front doors and burning its way outside. Indoors, outdoors, demons keep to themselves, seemingly sated.
It's almost peaceful. If you didn't know better.
The drizzle of blood tapers off over the course of Day 1, replaced by normal rain once night hits. The water that falls is clear, though bitter and metallic tasting, and the stormy weather continues for several days more. The temperature outside dips, even during the daytime, and the hunger that continues to persist (unless you're BB, who ate a Pixie, maybe) is made worse by the appearance of a hot dog stand that has been set up in front of the school building. Its existence in this place is wholly suspicious, entirely nonsensical, manifested as if out of a yandere devil summoner fever dream— and yet the mystery meat smells divine, and you are so so hungry.
"Hee-ho! Get your hot dogs here-ho! What? What kind of mee-hee-t is in it, ho? Don't worry about it, ho!"
Can anybody resist that cute face? never mind the sales pitch. Jack Frost will operate on a barter system, though it really only seems interested in people's gemstones, or if they're willing to slaughter and bring it a Katakirauwa in exchange for a cold but still delicious hotdog dressed up in any variety of condiment. For those who muster the courage to go demon hunting to earn their meal, they will find that a single hotdog will stave off hunger for up to three days. For those who gave up their gemstone instead, K5 will be screaming at them not to do that, but also, please tell me. Maybe they'll rethink the offer, noticing that the gemstones they'd found on their person now feel slightly warm to the touch- growing warmer when in proximity to another person's gemstones, their colors more vibrant, stones faintly glowing as if with internal light.
Generous as Jack Frost is with providing dubious sustenance, it's a different story when it comes to the vending machine beside its stall. Inside are various drinks guaranteed to be cold, and include bottled water, coffee, teas, juices, blood and tears and many other questionable unlabeled liquids among its touted 100!!! varieties of beverage ("""beverage"""). Two problems: 1) there is no selection button, so you do not get to choose your drink; and 2) the machine will only take macca. Where to get macca? Figure that out yourself and earn your drink gacha.

Since I know a handful of you are still working on apps, this event log in general will be open to all players, but Investigations will be closed to current players only. See below for more information.
»
On Day 1 only, wild demon encounters will be scarce and it will rain blood all day, after which the weather will transition into normal rain and demon encounters will also return to normal rates, less during the day and more frequent after dark.
»
When characters fall asleep any time in the next several days (including victims of the concert hall lullaby that will begin again starting Day 2, as well as inadvertent naps for those of you who are like lmao yeah whatever, i don't need sleep, i'm fine), they will be able to see the circumstances around other characters' canonpoints. This dream may take the form of being a bystander, or from the point of view of the character, whichever would be more fun/interesting to play.

As characters investigate different locations in the setting, more aspects of the game will be unlocked and will be updated in the post above. In summary, from the previous TDM event, characters have found doors sealed by barriers in the school, greenhouse, and hospital. The concert hall and powerplant are still both heavily guarded by demons that prevent thorough investigation until dealt with.

Charlemagne (Saber) OTA
[Swords clash, sparks fly, two voices roar defiance at each other as they clash once again, one last time, one final battle to decide the fate of the world.
A giant of a man wearing gold and black stands tall, his heart beating, bursting with love for all mankind, so much love that he would seize them and embrace every heart with his own, shattering all differences and all defiance until the only constant was love, free of evil, free of individuality.
And before him, so small in comparison, fights a man in blue and silver armor, his black and white hair shimmering with sweat from the effort of the battle. His holy sword shines a dozen different colours with each swing, and with each swing he carries the hopes and dreams of all humanity, the desire to be instead of to simply submit.
The two are evenly matched, but you feel it still. With every swing, the hero in silver's soul shatters a little more. With every thrust, the fantasy-king drains a little more of his life's spark. With every cry of determination, he loses a breath he will never take again.
You feel it — deep in your heart, deep in your soul. It doesn't matter who wins this clash. The fate of the world may lie in the balance, but the fate of the hero has long since been decided. A fragile, fragmented thing, so tiny compared to his foe.
He was granted only seven days to live, and now the bell tolls for him. And when he shatters his foe's sword and pieces his heart —]
...Goodbye, Master.
[In that same moment, he has shattered his own heart as well. This is what you see — a smiling face, dissolving into golden sparks, never to be seen again.]
2. Better Than Nothing (Forest)
Hmmm...nope! Not that one.
[The way his stomach growls at him is distressing for a few reasons - aside from the obvious, a Servant like him shouldn't need to eat. Without any food around, he'd decided to try keep himself occupied, and with the forest a little quieter than usual it seemed the perfect time to arm himself once again. He was weaker than before and didn't have a weapon, but at least he could fix one of those things.]
This one...?
After all, if he wanted to recruit some demons, or even defeat them, he'd need to have something to fight with. The Paladins' weapons were also beyond him for the moment, so instead he was looking for something that should be easy and effective, something humanity had been using as a weapon since they'd been able to use weapons at all.]
Aha!
[He bent down and grabbed his prize, swinging it through the air with a satisfying hiss. The grin he gives is as bright as can be despite the situation, and with another few practice swings, Charlemagne, Father of Europe, rests the stick in his right hand on his shoulder.]
There we go! Armed and dangerous yet again! Ah, that definitely looked super cool...just like Lancelot, defeating my enemies with naught but a tree branch...!
[He's caught up in the thrill of the situation, enough so that he doesn't notice someone approaching right away...]
3. Bad Deal (Hot-dog Stand)
Mmm...
[Charlie's stomach was growling again, and this time it was much harder to ignore. A hot-dog stand run by a demon, especially a smiling demon, was no solution to any problem...but it smelled like one, and that was a problem in and of itself. Just being around the place made him want to take a bite, and it was hard to pull himself away from the delicious scent of hot food. It was embarrassing for a Servant like him to be so weak-willed, but this place was doing something strange to him and he couldn't stop it.]
Katakirauwa, huh...?
[He's no stranger to hunting for his food, or for trading for what's necessary, but it still seems as though he's torn about whether or not to trust the vendor. Stick or no stick, he's sure he could defeat the piglike demons, but it's what comes after that concerns him most.]
...Ahh, this is rough...
4. Wildcard
[Hit me up in PMs or wherever suits!]
2
She isn't all that much for small-talk, but his declaration is enough to give her pause. First she glances around to ensure no demons are looming overhead, then she steps nearer so he can easily spot her. ]
Lance-a-lot?
[ Another stick-wielder, evidently... But it's an odd enough name from her perspective that she has to ask. ]
no subject
[He doesn't seem even a little embarrassed about being caught swinging a stick like a sword, the hefty branch still lying across his shoulders as he held up his free hand in greeting.]
Yep, Sir Lancelot! Apparently he was so skilled with a blade that he was able to defeat an ambush of armed men with just a nearby branch. I figured that since my own sword is missing, I'll need to take after him!
[He launched into the tale without a hint of hesitation, and it was only after he'd finished that he realised that he didn't actually recognise the woman he was talking to.]
Ah, whoops, forgot to introduce myself - I'm Saber. [He takes a single step forward and holds out a hand, a carefree smile on his face despite the situation.] Pleasure to meet you!
no subject
You can call me Princess.
[ It's less of a mouthful than any alternative, when all she recalls is her title. There isn't a name for her to give, much as she suspects his name isn't actually Saber. Perhaps the same holds true of Caster, now that she thinks about it.
Notably, she hesitates before taking his hand with her own dainty pale one. Despite appearances, there's a certain strength behind her grip someone of her build likely ought not have. ]
Where did his weapon go, that he was left with only a branch?
[ Even in an ambush, surely he kept a weapon close? ]
no subject
[He hadn't forgotten his manners — if nothing else, there wasn't a hint of sarcasm or duplicity in his eyes. If she said she was a princess, he saw no reason to doubt, and no reason not to act as a knight should. He rose to his feet and stepped back to give her some room after a moment, giving her an awkward smile at the sudden line of questioning.]
Aha...well, usually I can just hold out my hand and summon it, but I don't seem to be able to anymore here...[He held up his free hand, fingers curled as if around the hilt of a sword, but after a moment he let out a disappointed huff and his arm flopped back to his side.] So, for the moment I'm a Saber without a sword, which is...aaah, it's really lame...! But I still need to protect myself and the others, so I figured I'd use the next best thing!
no subject
When her mind catches up with the rest, she considers what he's saying. Apparently he should be able to call a sword to his hand. It's something she might doubt, had she not seen stranger still. ]
You might find something more durable in town, so it only needs to last until then.
[ She has her doubts they'll conveniently find any swords, but something metal, surely. ]
Some woke with weapons, but not everyone.
no subject
[He raised a hand to his chin in thought, before shrugging and setting the question aside for the moment. He wouldn't stop thinking about it, not really, but without any more information he would be scrambling in the dark.]
Mm, true...to be honest, I was kind of hoping I'd run into a demon or two so I could convince them to work with me. [He nodded along to himself as he spoke, a smile on his face. It seemed like any other expression just wasn't as natural for him.] My friend has some Pixies, so I was hoping I'd run into something super-cool that I could make friends with myself.
Oh! [He paused, before snapping his fingers like a lightbulb going off.] Have you recruited any so far? How does it work?
no subject
[ By the time she noticed, Harvey decided he quite liked being carried around. More importantly, being higher up than he would be normally. This apparently tied into his choice of name, somehow: Harvey's a name for a big rabbit, he claimed.
The Princess doesn't know about that, but she shifts her pack for Saber to more easily observe as the hare pops his head out, large stitches adorning his face like some manner of stuffed animal. ]
Harvey, this is Saber.
[ She gestures to Saber with a pale, open palm as Harvey sniffs the air and observes him with garnet eyes. ]
no subject
[There are almost literal sparkles in Charlie's eyes as he looks down at the stitched up hare. It was almost disconcerting, but evidently in Charlie's eyes the stitching didn't take away from the appeal.]
So cool...hey there, Harvey!
[He begins to reach out in what is almost certainly an attempt to pat the hare's head, one that he visibly restrains himself from and turns into a proffered hand for a handshake instead as he recalls that the demons here are sapient regardless of how they look.]
I've never met a talking rabbit before! Ah, Astolfo would love this...
no subject
And I've never met a talking "Saber".
[ A pause, as he watches the man with intent red eyes. Did his joke land? Hmm? Did it? ]
no subject
Wow, you really are something else! I don't think I've ever met a talking saber either — ah, wait, I did once. They weren't always a sword, but they sometimes talked when they were one, so I think it still counts. [Rengoku was a strange case, but still interesting.]
...Ah, just so you know, Saber isn't my real name. It's more of...a title, I guess? Though, not a great one when I don't have my sword...
no subject
[ Harvey has another goal in life now, aside being as tall as his namesake (which, for the record, is over 6'). He seems to disregard the rest entirely for a beat, patting Saber's palm with his paw when he's quite finished with their greeting gesture.
When the Princess opens her mouth to speak, however, Harvey beats her to the punch. ]
So have you forgotten your name, or is Saber your preference?
no subject
[Whether or not that would even be possible didn't seem to occur to Saber as he gave Harvey a high-five, before closing his eyes as his voice gained a more thoughtful tone.]
Well, no. Where I'm from, it can be dangerous to tell someone your name outright, since it exposes your strengths and weaknesses. Some of us even keep our names hidden from our closest companions.
[He fidgets a bit, before letting out a sigh and smiling again.]
Ah, screw it. I don't like hiding my real name, it's such a weight! Saber is my title, but my true name is Charlemagne! Ah, but call me Charlie, or Chuck, or something like that. Charlemange's a bit heavy, you know? And if we're going to be friends it's way nicer to have something casual to call me!

Not that she at all knew what a Lancelot was.. but still. He seemed capable enough, but it was still hard to approach people when speaking was a commodity she didn't even have at the moment. Calia glanced down at the satchel she held then shook her head as she wasn't going to dwell on the what-ifs for too long in this situation here.
A moment of hesitation then she nodded to herself and started forwards... or she would have, if not for the fact she had tripped on something and fell forwards. Truly about to faceplant on the ground in front of a stranger. What a way to make an impression. ]
no subject
Uh...are you alright? That was kind of a nasty-sounding fall!
He offered a hand to the stranger, a smile on his face that was about eighty percent good-natured and twenty percent trying to hide his amusement at the way their first meeting was going.
Need some help getting up?
no subject
She felt her ears burning a little even as she finally managed to gather enough composure to look up at the hand he was offering her. Thankfully not picking up on the amusement but it wasn't like Calia could honestly blame him, though at the very least she was able to nod in response to his question.
Even moving to reach out to take that hand of his, the other hand rubbing a bit at her forehead. ]
no subject
Well...you might end up with a bit of a bruise, but there's no cut, so that's good. Anyway! Nice to meet you, I'm Saber. What's your name?
[Evidently, he hasn't picked up on the fact that she can't respond.]
no subject
She opened her mouth, then closed it before glancing down at the COMP on her wrist. BB had shown her how to use it but this whole tech thing was still super complicated for her just at the moment. So with that in mind, Calia reached out to take one of his hands and turned it so his palm was facing skyward.
Using her other hand, she made to use her index finger to slowly spell out her name on his hand the best she could.
C-A-L-I-A. ]
no subject
Ooooooh. Your name is...Calia? And you don't speak? Or...maybe you can't?
[He shrugged, instead giving her another bright smile.]
Well, either way! It's nice to meet you, Calia!
no subject
I c-a-n-n-o-t s-p-e-a-k. S-o-r-r-y.
It didn't stop her from flashing him a bright smile in turn all the same, not about to let this little weakness of hers make it harder than it needed to be here. She was on land, unable to speak and surrounded mostly by people she knew little about. Which reminded her.
She added one more thing, hoping that it wasn't being annoying.
Y-o-u-r N-a-m-e? ]
no subject
Ah...well, that's okay! If you need to, you can just spell everything out on my hand. Just let me know if I screw up interpreting anything.
[He nodded along as she asked his name, before pausing a little. He should probably keep up their Servant codenames...ah, to hell with it. Keeping secrets wasn't cool.]
I'm Charlemagne! Ah, but you can call me Charlie, or Chuck, or Saber, or anything else you like really. Charlemagne is a bit of a mouthful, you know?
no subject
She couldn't help the soundless little giggle she made, still visible to what she was doing even if it couldn't be heard. Though all the same? Calia nodded to say she understood, already moving to carefully 'send' another message to him.
'C-h-a-r-l-e-m-a-g-n-e i-s a l-o-v-e-l-y n-a-m-e.
I w-i-l-l c-a-l-l y-o-u C-h-a-r-l-i-e. I-t i-s c-u-t-e!' ]
no subject
[He seemed particularly insistent on that point, though his friendly demeanor hadn't shifted a bit. Her silent giggles were a little strange, but not remotely the strangest thing he'd ever seen — heck, Roland blew her out of the water all by himself. Still, they seemed to be getting along well!]
So, what brings you out here? Searching for demons too?
no subject
'Y-e-s. V-E-R-Y c-o-o-l!'
A pause lingered and she tilted her head to the side, thinking about it deeply before nodding again. The COMP-thing said something about allying with demons but they mostly just seemed like they wanted to eat her and she wanted nothing to do with that.
She couldn't keep putting off using it so Calia withdrew her hand and brought up her wrist, bringing up the text function and tapping a bunch of times before showing him a much more cohesive message. A little shaky but she was getting used to this whole technology thing. ]
Should hve done ths earlier. sorry. hard to deal wth dmons when i cant speak.
no subject
[He took back his hand as she let go, tilting his head curiously as she tapped away at her wrist, before he made a hum of acknowledgement as he saw the message. He hadn't used his COMP much, but this definitely felt like a quicker way to communicate, even if he hadn't minded the drawing-on-hand method.]
Oooooh...that's pretty cool, actually. It must come in handy - but, ah, yeah. They're kind of hard to deal with normally, but if you can't speak...
[He hummed to himself, before nodding.]
Well, since we're both here, why don't we recruit you a demon? I can help with the whole process!
